Over time, even the most powerful vacuum cleaner can start to lose suction. Reduced suction power is a common problem, but in most cases, it can be resolved independently, without professional service or replacing the device. Proper and timely vacuum cleaner cleaning will help restore its former efficiency and extend its service life. At the Loretto home appliance store, we often hear questions from customers: «Why has my vacuum cleaner lost suction? What should I do?» The answer is simple: the cause most often lies in a clogged filter, dusty container, or a blocked hose. Let's delve into the details. 1. Clean the Container or Bag If your vacuum cleaner uses a container, make sure it's not overfilled. Even 70% full can significantly weaken airflow. The container should be emptied after every second or third cleaning. If a disposable bag is used, it should also be changed regularly. Reusable bags need to be washed and dried. 2. Check the Filters Modern vacuum cleaners, especially those with a cyclonic system, are equipped with multiple filters. One of the main ones is the HEPA filter. It traps fine dust and allergens but also gets clogged over time. If the filter is washable, rinse it with warm water without detergents and let it dry for 24 hours. If the filter is disposable, replace it. 3. Inspect the Hose and Tubes Sometimes suction power is lost due to a blockage inside the hose or nozzle. This could be an accumulation of hair, lint, paper scraps, and other small objects. Clear the hose manually or thread a long, thin object through it (such as a plastic stick or a wire with a rounded end) to remove the blockage. 4. Ensure Nozzles Are Not Clogged Carpet and floor nozzles can also get clogged with debris, especially if there are pets in the house. They should be regularly rinsed or cleaned with a brush. 5. Check Connection Seals Checking seals, the container lid, and tube-to-body connections can reveal air leaks. Even a small crack or loose fit can weaken suction.
